There is no way of getting around it. At some point in time, we all have to replace our car tires. It does not matter whether you drive a Porsche or a Datsun, after a six or so years, you are going to need to get a new set of tires. And we all understand that this happens, but we never really understand how much it costs to replace your old tires.
I’ll be frank; a new set of tires can easily cost you $800 or more. I don’t know about you, but that is a hefty bill if you weren’t planning on buying car tires anytime soon. And lets be honest, the majority of us never change our tires until one blows out and we notice that the other three are on their last legs. The first place you want to check out is your local tire shop. You know, something like Big O tires, so that you can get a good sense of what the retail prices are for your particular tire size. Now you have a frame of reference to compare the sales price on tires no matter where you go. Now it is off to Costco or Sam’s Club to see if they have the same tires for at least 5% less than the tire retailer.
Now if you want to skip all of that, and just focus on getting the best deal, then it’s time to head online. Do a simple Google search for “discount car tires” or “car tire sales”, and a list of discount tire store websites will come up. Check out each site on the first page and see what type of deals they have going on for your tire size. If you find one that is offering at least 15% off it’s suggested retail value buy it immediately.
I always say look for deals that offer at least a 15% discount because you still have to pay for shipping. And shipping costs a lot of money. The tires are large and heavy, so the shipping costs will definitely eat into the discount. But, at the end of the day, you will still be saving more money going this route instead of paying regular prices at your local tire retailer.
