Leaking faucets are not only annoying, but expensive. A leaking faucet wastes water that you then have to pay for. Plumbers can be quite expensive, especially considering that you can fix it yourself quite easily. You do not need to have plumbing experience or training to fix simple problems such as a leaking sink. All you need is a screwdriver, adjustable wrench, masking tape and some patience to figure out what the problem is.
If you have just installed the faucet and it is leaking, then you most likely need to tighten a loose nut. The net is located either inside of or below the handle. All you need to do is remove the handle and tighten the loose nut with an adjustable wrench.
In many cases, however, a leaking faucet is caused by a washer being worn out, damaged or hardened, and you will need to replace it. The first step to doing so is to shut off the water. Turn your faucet on once you have done this to drain out any leftover water in the pipes. After that, remove the faucet; be careful if it is a decorative model as you would not want to ruin it. The washer is located inside at the bottom and is held in place with a holding screw.
Remove the washer and take it with you to a hardware store. That way, you will be sure that the new washer you buy is the exact size and type of washer needed for your sink. Once you have bought the new washer, screw it in place and put everything back in the exact same order in which you removed it. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks. If your faucet is still leaking, double check whether the washer and packing nut have been screwed in tight enough.
If you are unable to solve the problem on your own look for a professional plumber in your area. Look for a company like Champs Dallas Plumbing that will offer a full warranty on any repair performed. Know when to call a pro and if the job calls for it, do so.
