Do It Yourself Mold Removal Tips

Mold is the most common household problem, even greater than insect pests. These molds grow in areas that are moist, dark areas  like basements and bathrooms.  It also grows in areas with poor ventilation. There are molds that can be removed easily and safely while black molds or the Stachybotrys chartarum is toxic. These black molds are slimy and greenish black in color. They trend to collect in walls and tiles. Black molds have a distinct musty odor that is caused by the volatile compounds it has called mycotoxins.

Killing and removing a mold with the help of professionals is known as mold remediation.
This is very costly and can be completed over a long period of time. But for homeowners, a
small problem with mold can be handled with ease. There are just certain things that you need and some safety precautions you have to take.  Different kinds of mold require different mold removal plans, for black mold removal you should be sure it has not spread to other areas and if it appears to have spread you should call in a company to run a series of tests.

Molds can cause respiratory problems, exposure to mold can require you to see out mold exposure treatment. Before cleaning up an area, be sure to use gloves and a mask. Goggles are also advised since molds can cause sensitivity and irritation to your eyes. Molds can be cleaned up using non-ammonia based soap and a lot of scrubbing.  There are also a lot of commercial cleaners very much available in stores but it contains harsh chemicals and has a very strong smell. There are also home cleaning products that can help you out like baking soda and vinegar.

Mix these two until you form a pasty consistency. Apply it to the moldy area and scrub it using a stiff brush. If you have some molds in wood, you might sand it away but be careful not to destroy its structural integrity. Mold cannot be easily and completely removed from carpets and drywall. After removing the molds, disinfect it using a bleach and water solution. It is not advised to put bleach directly to the mold since it will just remove the color but not kill the mold.
