Pocket Watches 101 Information

Ask a thousand people about pocket watches, and most often than not, they’ll be saying the same thing, “These are things for hypnotists”. Much of this common view or rather, misconception about the simple and elegant pocket watch is because of the influence of media for most of us. How many times have we seen in movies, soap operas, dramas and whatsoever, that hypnotists use pocket watches in order to hypnotize their patients or even, victims? Countless.

However, if told, would these people believe that this so-called tool of hypnotists is the forefather or the grand daddy of all watches?

More than half a millennia ago watches were not used, and heck, they weren’t even invented yet. Then because of a locksmith named Peter Heinlein, watches came to life by 1510. For the benefit of the mass, Peter Heinlein is also considered as the inventor of watches, although, there is still not enough evidence to prove that notion. A century later, pocket watches invented, and from that simple ingenuity and invention started by Peter Heinlein, more and more inventors made use of a watch and made them even better and more convenience to use.

It wasn’t long before watch makers decided to make watches for each gender. Pocket watches for men and for women were invented, and in a few centuries, the simple pocket watch became the center of attention. People who possessed such watches were considered to be rich and elite. They were considered to be high-class, sophisticated, and a cut above the rest. Nowadays, the pocket watch is all but a shadow of its former self. But, to know this much information about the simple and often neglected pocket watch is somewhat enlightening. After all, they are the ancestors of the wristwatches that people, and even YOU, are wearing right this very minute.
