One way to improve the look of your current fish tank is by using an interesting aquarium background. This can be a self-adhesive vinyl material that you can easily slap on the glass of your fish container to emulate the sea (and give your aquarium the illusion of expansiveness) or something you have printed out yourself, such as a preferred underwater-scape that you hold with a stand at the back part of your fish tank like a picture.
Aquarium backgrounds are often waterproof and come in a variety of designs, from coral reefs, to riverbeds, to lakes, and so on. Some are pre-cut and double sided, while others present a more three dimensional picture. Market prices depend highly on the size that you need.
You can also opt for a more personalized background by making your own. You can fashion one out of a collage of favorite pictures, or a favorite scene in a movie. You can also use an underwater shot that you have taken yourself.
To get the best fit for your tank, measure the dimensions thoroughly. If the dimensions that you need are not readily available and you have to crop the material yourself, add about an inch to each side of your tank’s measurement to give you allowance for cutting errors. For small to medium-sized tanks, you can trace the outline of your aquarium using manila paper to use as a guide for cutting your background. If you have a full wall aquarium you may not need the background.
Some aquarium backgrounds are self-adhesive. However, for those that are not, you can use a mounting gel. There are plain mounting gels and those with illuminating properties to enhance the look of your tank background. Whatever you pick, make sure that you clean the surface of the glass before application.
