Vintage Ginny Dolls

Those with an appreciation of vintage dolls have certainly heard of Ginny. The doll, which was the creation of one Jennie Adler Graves has become one of the classics among doll collectors. A skillful seamstress in her own right, Jennie was encouraged by an acquaintance to design and sew some of her beautiful creations for an event being held for charity. The clothes were to be made “doll size”. Jennie made the outfits and only later found out that they were actually being sold and not donated to charity. Although this might have been a round about route, the experience helped her to realize that her creations had major commercial possibilities. She continued making the popular doll outfits and then sold them to a department store based in Boston by the name of Jordan Marsh.

When a decline in sales was seen, it did not discourage her. Rather, it inspired her to create an eight inch doll that would eventually evolve into Ginny. Ginny dolls quickly became popular with consumers, and thus, the stores who sold her.  Many people have tried to copy the doll over the years, but no one has been able to permanently knock her off of her lofty perch as one of the most collectible dolls available.

Although there have been many changes in control of the company Jennie established over the years, Ginny has persevered and remained a top collectible doll. Today, vintage Ginny dolls are bought and sold on a daily basis on sites like eBay. Prices for the more collectible models can be quite impressive to say the least. If you happen to own one of the original Ginny dolls from the early days, you may have yourself quite a collectible. Even if you have no intention of selling it, you should take a look at what people are willing to pay for a doll like yours.  Antique and vintage dolls are a very popular collectible and probably will remain so for years to come.
